Default Air Leaking?

I was going to do a valve spring swap and used the compessed air metthod to hold the valves up. It sounds like air was either going past the rings or passed the exhaust valve. Could hear the air in the exhaust, but it also sounded like it was comming from both sides. What sould I try next. I did a compression check. around 180 accross the board. Haven't done a leak down test. I'm thinking burned exhaust valves. Just trying to think of what else to check out before I yank the heads.

Your gonna have some leakage past the rings, they dont seal 100%.
It should be fine, go ahead and do the swap. Does it burn any oil?

Hard to tell on the oil part. I plan on going to a LS6 style PCV soon. I understand that the rings don't seal 100%, but the sound was really loud. Louder than on other cars I've done swaps. If you put your ear to the exhaust pipe, you can hear the sound faintly. I have a 100,000 miles on it now.

Can you hear the air leakin when you are putting pressure on the retainer? or before you apply pressure with the spring tool?

If its after you are applying pressure you may just need to knock the retainer loose from the lock. Take a brass ended mallet and tap the retainers.

If its leaking before you apply pressure then you may want to look into pulling the heads and getting a valve job.

If it makes you feel better mine made a hissing sound the entire time I was changing the springs, and that was three cams ago. I think you will be fine.

Yea I'm thinking burnt exhaust valves due to using Nitrous. I'm pondering what else it could be before I yank the heads. If they have to be pulled I'll start looking towards aftermarket heads. Just need the $ 1st.

Was it alot of air?, and did it hold up the valves. I'm also wondering where to get a 90 deg righ angle for the adaptor to fit the hose in on the Pass. side.
