IMO i would go with the 5.3 set, really good option as long as you do not get them milled, because as you said you do not wanna increase the compression, where the use of high octane will be needed (after 11.5:1 you will need more octanes or substraction on the timing tune up which i think is not the answer). The 5.3 will give you more power at the low to mid range. As long as the porting job on the heads for sure (2.00/1.60). Just my 2 cents!

I would go with the 5.7 head- compression will be 11 flat or so depending on how far out the piston is from the deck(.007" is normal). The truck head will get ya around 11.5 and if you ever get any gas below 93 you will hate it. The 1.6 exhaust valve on a 3.900 bore flows about what a 1.55 truck valve does- my imput is the 1.57(if you change the valve at all). I just finished one up that is 10.9 or so with a high 23x cam and stock 2.00/1.55 valves that seems to be runnin pretty good, hadnt got it to the dyno yet to get tuned so no numbers yet.

I'm running 5.3's on my 383. They were milled 0.005" to get them square. My pistons have a 7cc dish and my compression come's to 10.9:1.

Don't get a 1.60 exaust valve unless you plan on spraying. 1.57 will keep the low-end TQ up a bit better.

Ahh, miss read the post. The 383 I am talking about has 2cc valve reliefs.
