Default coolant vents in head

Do I need to have the rear vents connected on my LS1? Is there any benefit? I'm using an aftermarket manifold and they reccomend removing the rear cooland crossover pipe and plugging the holes, then using a front only coolant crossover pipe. It would make things easier if the rear vents were not needed.

I'll post some pictures of this mess when it isn't a mess anymore.

Thanks all

Block the rears off. All the cars that came with the ls6 intake come with the rear ones blocked off from gm (I think).

When changing to the LS-6 or equivilent intake, you block the rear vents and change the crossover to the front.

thanks guys. I'm glad I looked at it, someone tapped the rear holes and one side was pretty wasted. I ened up screwing a plug down about 1/4 inch below the surface before it bit into some good threads.
