Default Is my cam too big for Open Loop

I have posted in some threads and wanted to get some opinions. If this is not appropriate for the internal engine section then I don't mind if you move it.

I am getting ready to put a 239/246 .649"/.613" 106lsa 106icl in a stock 01 shorblock with about 11.5 to 1 compression (5.3 litre heads cut 30 and piston notches in my stock pistons about .090" deep). Do you think I will be able to run an open loop tune with this cam. I ran it with my previous setup which entailed a 230/236 107lsa 107icl cam and stock shortblock and stock heads. I know I will need to change some stuff but it shouldn't be too bad.

My question is do you think the reversion will be so bad that the maf won't work at low rpms. It is a 85mm SLP unit if that makes any difference.

Have you guys run bigger cams then this in stock shortblocks with the maf.

Thanks.

Why wouldnt you be able to run an open loop tune. Its closed loop where you would have issues. Just because the maf isnt present doesnt mean the computer goes into open loop (ODB1 vehicles did but not ODB2). The pcm not seing the stock NB O2 sensors will throw the computer into open loop or setting the closed loop enable temp to 254. These are the only two conditions that I know of that will put the car in open loop

My car does not have 02 sensors in, but it does have the MAF on. The only reason I would think I couldn't run open loop (my understanding of open loop is running the maf sensor with no 02s) would be because of too much reversion.

You dont haeve o2 sensor so you are always in open loop. And wont be able to go back to CL unless you find you some NB 0o2 sensors

I understand that. My question is though do you think the cam will cause too much reversion to the point that the car will hesitate and act stupid (maf reading air ingested by the motor twice instead of once instead of just reading once which is what it is designed to do). I know I physically can do it, my question is do you think it will work well.

My only other choice would be a full SD tune with no map or o2s.

I though open loop meant using the maf with no 02s. Isn't no maf and no 02s considered to be a SD tune?

I concur JS . IMHO I would get rid of it see how it works for you and if you dont like it put the maf back on.

Nick this is Dirk.....

Arrons car was tuned at the track in OL SD mode. With minimal WOT tuning (still aint done) and no timming tuning (just 28* at WOT) he went 12.1@117 spinning hard for about a good 45 ft...
