Oil pump port or replace?

Oil pump port or replace?
On a 75K mile 2002 engine, should I replace the oil pump or shoudl I port it out. Im pretty comfortable porting it myself, but im wondering what needs to be replaced to ward off failure. Is it just the O ring that needs to be replaced or does the pump itself go bad over time?
Thanks,
-Tony

The pressure relief valve spring could probably use a replacing. Don't ask where to find one though...Try contacting APE or maybe even TSP to see if you can get a spring from them. You could probably get a shim for the spring as well to pump up the pressure a little.

We buy brand new pumps, pull them apart and deburr, detail, lap, port and reassemble. We take off all the sharp edges. The sharp edges are what tears up an LS pump. They are a great design, with the right attention will last for a long time.

You can shim them up to about .125". I wouldn't put any more pressure than that on a factory spring. You can purchase the shim stock from McMaster-Carr . That supply company carries just about EVERYTHING. Pull the spring, measure its OD, and that's your shim OD
