dowel rods well i'm just going to go out and buy something to hold the lifters up. where did yall buy yours? i wne to home depot today and asked some lady where i could get one and she gave me a blank stare and said "i dont even know what a rod is"... i left the store after that. so where did u get it? if you used home depot, what section should i go to?

You asked for 'dowel rod'? Dowel is wood. Did you want to use dowel or steel? Both have been used. In Home Depot I think dowel is located in the same isle as trim wood (baseboard, quarter round, chair rail, etc). Most would probably recommend steel/aluminum though.

Just ask them for round steel rod. They are sitting verticle in a 3ft X 3ft rack and there are all kinds of diameters. Get the steel 5/16 rod. I think you should at least grind one end to somewhat of a point to help it slide in.

I used 5/16 wooden dowel. like 50 cents a peice.
I dont think you have any chance of breaking them off unless you pry up and down on the rod. It just wont happen as long as you are at least a little bit cautious.
They also slide in easier than the steel rods from what I have been reading. The wood will give just a little bit as the steel will not...and this makes it hard to get in sometimes.
