Chris, you may as well be speaking latin, because you have just exposed my lack of knowledge about tuning. I'll just call you sometime and maybe you can walk me through it slowly. Why don't you just bring the wife and take a scenic trip to LA.(lower Alabama) you could come up here tune my car and uhhh....uhhhh...well there are alot of pine trees to look at.

That totally sucks. Is there any way around this? I'm thinking of switching the heads out this coming year for something different.

Well this post finally changed my mind. I am going to get the ASA also. Unfortunaly I have a TR 230 in the mail as we speak. But the final kicker for me is the spring issue. I cant really afford good dual springs. I dont think the extra power the TR is worth is good enough to always be sweating my valvetrain at this point in my cars devolopment. And the thought of changing springs every year really sucks. And since my final goal is 500 rwhp I believe a 150 shot of nos with the ASA cam and LT headers should get me there easy. Thanks for posting your results.
BTW there is a brand new still in box TR230 now for sale in the sale section. $375 Shipped.

No turning back now. Juat ordered my ASA through SDPC. Now when I I wont be as worried about a spring.

I should get the cam some time next week. Hopefully it will be installed within two weeks from now.
I am going to dyno my car with my TR220 on stock exhaust manifolds and cats before the cam change. Then I will dyno the ASA on the same mods on the same day. All my mods are in sig. And then when my QTP headers get here I will be tuning and dynoing the ASA with that set up.

lol... so you finally chose the ASA cam.. LOL.. it will be better for you in the long run i think, because of the lower intake duration, and the lower springs. im getting this cam for the idle and the springs ill be sure to post my results in about a month when i tear my car apart

SS383... i wasnt knockin the sponsors AT ALL!!! i love their products and have bought MANY items from our sponsors, and will continue to. i was just using them as an example to show just HOW ignorant SOME people are of big cams if a sponsor that sells cams dont know, then who the hell does??? i just found out that they dont know EVERYTHING in the book ... and i sujjest that people use caution on the internet

Spings..Egads!
I'm having a comp 224/224 .581 114 lsa installed at the end of the month. Using Comp 918 springs
I knew I'd have to keep an eye on the springs and have em changed...
But every year!? Yikes!

What about mileage.. I dont put many miles on the car. Its a 98 and I've had it since Oct 97. It only has 37K on it...
How many 'miles' should I be lookin' at before replacing the springs.

I'm doing my cam install this weekend, weather permitting and I was wondering what you could offer as far as advice on valve springs. I bought the Moore Performance tool and it is supposed to be pretty good. This is my first cam install so I have no clue on changing valve springs. Also, I heard the back few are tough to get.. any advice is appreciated... from anyone else too!

now you just need a set of heads to go along, that cam is known for its torque, i have always considered it to be the hot cams big brother. Alot of people put 1.8 rocker arms to get a little more lift out of it. So what happens when you turn on your a/c

I almost threw my computer out the window reading this post

Congratulations Kori!!!!

I swear to G O D I can't wait 'til I move out of this condo That is the ONLY reason why I didn't put your cam in my car

FYI for everybody else: with my heads and this cam, a '00 C5 with bolt-ons through cats made 417 rwhp completely un-tuned

I'll give you a call Kori . . . I wanna hear that big BEATCH

Thanks Chris, this baby is Awesome! You should have seen me smile when it started idling on its own. Do you think my car is just wierd or am I going to see problems when it gets really hot out? How much will I stand to gain hp wise with edit?

I haven't tried the a/c yet, that may cause a problem. I just finished getting it back together and have put maybe 100 gentle miles on it. BTW its an M6 camaro ss with 30,000 on the odometer, oh yeah and I reused my retainers. ALL in all I am extremely happy. There is just something BADASS about a big cammed LS1 idling looks like its trying to twist out of its motor mounts!

Tap your Lterms, fuel cell trim, timing, knock retard, engine speed, and 02's.

Do the log tap for about 20 miles local streets, no highway.

Average your Lterms in fuel cells 4 thru 16 and get back to me.

Won't know how much you'll gain until/unless you dyno and do the log taps and get your A/F on a wideband.

Nice to hear about the cam, kinda small for a 383 IMO. I have a 243/250 .610/.612 114 LSA cam in my 388 big bore and it idles like a champ

Hey man. I just put a Thunder Racing 230 with .575 & .563 lift in. Are you serious when you say that you have to change your springs every year? I was kinda hoping for some decent reliability.

This used to happen to me too. Seriously for $25 buy a pair of Mechanics gloves. Once you try these gloves out you will never want to work bare handed again.

No cuts. No dirt. You just can't beat it.

I can give you a couple of hints. You need a valve spring tool that compresses the spring and holds it, that way your hands will be free to get the keys out. When dealing with the keys use one of your pen magnets and your other free hand to carefully pull the keys out. You cannot afford to drop even one of those things! But you will! Just go really slowly. I dropped two but luckily they didnt fall down into the heads. drivers side I didn't have any issues, but on the passenger side firewall there is one heater hose that you have got to move, and be careful because when you pull it out coolant is gonna pour all over your heads so be ready. Be sure to put air on the cylinder you are working on if you get in a hurry and start the next cylinder without swapping the hose you'll drop a valve and that is gonna suck.
