I think th 225s would be too big for a 346 also but Tony @ AFR told me otherewise and said he is currently putting them onhis 346. maybe Ill wait and see what happens. As far as the renting the tool Im sure I can find it but have never done this and it doesnt look like much room as have of the engine sitts under the firewall.

depends on how high you want to spin and what the car will be used for........daily driver with a 7K rpm max, 205s......full race with 8K rpm, 225s...

now note I said a complete set.....that means valves, seals, springs, etc......I don't have any problems with the head its self (it’s a GM head) and their port work seems to work fine but I don't trust the hardware they put in their heads. If I wanted to use their heads I would buy a set bare (just empty ported heads) and then install my own parts.......then you have a good head....
?? I have heard many people say the patriot spings (Dual golds) are some of the best springs you can buy.

Also, whats wrong with their stainless valves and the seals?

Reason i am asking is i am looking into buying a set of the heads, but without the springs & retainers.

they had a lot of problems with "bad valves" (valve stems broke off and fell into the cylinder) and they seem to me over porting the valve seat area which has caused the valve seats to come loose and also fall into the cylinder.....

the springs seem to be working fine but I will stick to Isky myself......

If I wanted to use their heads, they would be bare heads that had been ported/polished and then I would have new seats installed and install my own hardware.....

yeah I know they HAD those problems but i thought they are known to have cleaned up their act and that the new heads are fine. I even heard that if you have new but older heads, they will check them out and even update them and make sure they flow properly etc etc for free. not sure if its true or not...

your best bet is as cast or CNC'd and have another shop clean them up a bit and rework the valve job, throw in some manley or ferrea valves, and the gold kit and you have a killer set of heads at a decent price.

I am looking into buying a set of new Patriot stage 2, 5.3 heads. They are sort of the bare heads but come with the stainless steel valves. Basically they just don't have whats in a spring kit (spring, retainers etc). The price is $700. I could probably get manley valves for like what $200? Hoo much would a shop charge to clean them up and rework the valve job & assmeble the heads? I want to get a cam installed at same time, which will probably be either an F13 or TR224...

I'd really like to have atleast 430 rwhp...
