Default Oil Pump ?

Ok, im getting ready to put a cam in my car. my stock oil pump at idle is around 45 and around 65 when crusing down the road. should I put a new one in? my car is a 2001 w/ 50 K on it. thanks for the help.

You'll get varying responses to this one. I didn't replace mine. I, also, had 50K at the cam swap but chose to leave well enough alone. It's your call. Some will say replace it, others wont. Get ready for the responses! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Any engine I've had apart that far I've replaced the oil pump they don't cost that much and it's just good insurance.

I put one in (SLP) when I did the cam.
I wasn't going to,but Speed inc. called
me and said"while the front is apart"...
I said"go ahead" (just for insurance)
It has great pressure.
I'd be mad at myself if the stock one failed.

I put a cam in my car and still have the stock oil pump in there. I only have 10,000 miles on it and I have a 2001 model.

I have heard that the oil pump problems were resolved by GM on the later 2000 models. So, hopefully, the 2001's & 02's should be fine.
