Why aren't ITBs popular?

Individual throttle bodies seem to be at least on the radar for Holdens, why aren't they popular in the US? Speed Density tuning is catching on, so going MAF-less isn't the big deal that it used to be. Since people are shelling out $1200 for a 90mm FAST intake/TB setup, why hasn't a market for ITBs developed?

Thanks
Ben

Actually it has. Kinsler has it available but big $$$

GenIII Performance deals alot with ITB's.

Harrop makes a killer looking setup for the GTO, but it is quite spendy!

SD is just coming on in the U.S. Give that and ITBs a chance to catch on.

All the setups here have been very, very pricey...

The Harrop setup is nice when $1USD was worth $2AUD. But, at $1.20 its gets pricey...

madpwr1 Jan 24, 2005 02:41 PM

$5000???? :eek2: that thing better add at least 200rwhp, but i bet you'll be lucky to see 20 :jest:

what are the benefits of this setup?

btw, i think i know why it hasn't sold well, cause 1200 and 5000 is a BIG difference!

Manifold
$3,850.00 including GST.
Harrop Hurricane installation kit includes outer sub-airbox
covers, filters, and front cold air tray.
$1,100.00 including GST.

$4950 AUD = $3,812.49USD (at today's rate .7702)

ok fine $3812.49, still sounds like it's a lot more than $1200, over three times more

so anyone know the benefits over the lsx manifold? if there are some serious benefits other than it's different then the price might not seem so bad.

There is your answer, I have never seen a 8 TB setup sell for less than $2800.

Each inlet sees atmospheric pressure. Think of it as 8 separate 1 cylinder motors. No shared plenum. Idle and throttle repsose are better. Tames down a big cam too.

Here is a video of a 242/242 106LSA /105ICL

I didn't realize the extent that the dollar is sucking against the AUS dollar.

Those prices are just way too high. If they were around $2000-2500 I think they would sell well.

Here is a link to the Harrop site:
http://www.harrop.com.au/products/ro...en/engine.html

ITBs give a much fatter torque curve (increased area under the curve) and an increase in top end as well.

well sure doesn't sound like it'd give you the 200rwhp i was thinkin to justify that price or for that matter even the 20, hahaha ... but if you got the extra money to throw around why not, right

I have a simular setup as posted by Jrod, The main buety is taming large cams and making them drive like daily driver (daily shopping carts). Idle qualities and super responsiveness and adds roughly about 50ftlbs of torque.

Worth evry penny :) :)

yah i would be very curious to see some before and after dyno charts...

madpwr1 Jan 25, 2005 10:29 AM

ok, will the harrop one bolt right up to an f-body? if not, what companies got one that will ... phone number and price would be apperciated ... cheapest one, just want to test it out ... thanks

Cowl clearance will be your issue on the F-Body.

madpwr1 Jan 25, 2005 10:44 AM

so this is not only gettin expensive but difficult too

forget it, i was gonna do some testin on my cars with them, bone stock ls1, bolt-on ls1, and heads/cam ls1 ... have all three setups ... but i'm thinkin this is just gonna run into problem after problem and get very costly quick.

You'll need a minimum of 3cm clearance above what you have with an Ls1/ls6 intake to fit the Harrop 8TB setup. It fits a GTo with no issues. I'd like to test one on a c5. Its just a matter of getting my hands on one at this point....

CamTom12 Jan 25, 2005 04:40 PM

Is there a K-Member that drops the motor by at least that much?

i'm sure there is
