Default Darton question

Someone I know tore their motor down to have a look at it. It is a Darton sleeved motor.

Both sides of the thrust were heat discolored.

Has anyone seen this before in an LS1 buildup either with a Darton sleeve application, or in a regular application?

I'm not looking at the Darton as being the culprit, but more looking to see if it may have been an assembly error. I'm not there, so I can't check endplay, etc... But I'm just looking to see if anyone else has seen any sorts of issues.

Thanks.

I've seen the thrust torn up in an LT1 but never an LS1. Suspect was a balance issue. Also, if it is an automatic car, improper torque converter clearance can cause it. The obvious is improper end play.

If both sides are discolored, then I agree with Mikey on too little endplay. I've seen a couple thrust bearings burned up on the back side from a strong clutch.
