Default C5r or Ls2 block

I know there is a huge price difference but what is the advantage of the C5r. I see that there are 2 versions of the C5r block, one for a dry sumped setup and the other for the conventional oilling.
Any knowledge please post up.

One difference is that the C5R block comes with billet main caps...now, does this advantage justify the ~4K difference in price?...I'd say not. The bore size will be a factor as well...what bore are you planning? The C5R has a finish bore in the neighborhood of 4.125, the LS2 is 4, so if you want bigger than 4, you'll have to resleeve the LS2. Just a few tidbits I can think of, I'm sure the experts will chime in with a wealth of knowledge...

Really just depends how deep your pockets are. If you have the funds I would heavily lean towards the C5R.

Good Luck,

Mark

C5R also has bad *** main studs and head studs already in it. They are the really good ones. Plus the block is alot stronger. They run these motors at really high rpms for really long amounts of time. They hold up really nice to that abuse and will be able to support whatever you throw at it.

I like the idea of only doing something once and doing it right. How is the C5r sleeved?

Both blocks are a very nice product. In my opinion it realy depends on what ci you want to build. If you are wanting a big bore motor & have a little over $6,000.00 to spend on a block, the C5R is the way to go. The LS2 block is 4.000 bore from the factory and will go to a 4.020. This block can be purchased at SDPC For $995.00. We sell a good amount of each. The C5R is alot stronger block, it's just a matter of what block will do the job.

If I'm not mistaken the C5R block is machined from a solid chunk of aluminum. That would explain the price difference.

just go by the pimp factor...i mean someone walks up to you what kinda motor is that... "Ls2...bla bla..." ah thats cool...but imagine saying..."oh its a C5R...." thats just pimp right there...but ya it should really depend on your $$$ above all else.

Yeah, I found that pretty hard to believe. It also wouldn't be 6k, more like 30-40k.

C5R blocks are cast from a different alloy, are something like 2 times stronger than an LS1 casting. Unfortunately I have forgotten most of what the block manufacturer told me but it was very impressive. But I think part of the high price is that the blocks go thru like 3 companies before we can buy them.

I was mistaken about the C5R block. There must be somebody out there building LS1 blocks like this.
