ticking valvetrain
just completed a h/c swap on 04 C5 A4, installed pp ls6 style heads with a Crane/VHP Boss 2 camshaft. adjusted crane rockers eight 1/4 turns past zero lash as before. rocker or rockers start ticking once oil temp gets to 175. i went from 10-30 mobil 1, to 0-40 Euro mobil 1 this oil change. I replaced both header gaskets, sprayed with copper to be sure of good seal. Could it be the oil that is causing the problem? Quiet as any other ls1 until oil temp nears 175?

Is it "ticking" from one particular area or is the whole valvetrain just noisy. Mine sounds like a sewing machine especially when it is cold. But with my exhaust I can't really hear it unless I'm right down on top of the valve cover. Seriously though, If you read though some post, these valvetrains are noisy, especially with an aggresive cam and aftermarket valvetrain parts.

VHP accelerated lift cam 216/224 .551 small by most standards, ticking coming from #1, pulled v/c and checked preload, using crane 1.8 rocker kit w/ dual springs, ti retainers and 7.250 pushrods. lift now .590. degreed cam and checked p/v before starting. i just wonder if it could be the oil? one would think that higher viscosity oil would help.
