Default Cam Lift... How much is too much?

I was looking into getting a cam for my Z and was wondering how much lift is too much lift to keep a reliable valvetrain? I don't want to have to change springs every 10-15K miles. The car is a daily driver, so the miles rack up fast. Basically I want to be able to put in some good after market springs and not worry about it for a while...25-30K miles. I won't rev the engine past 6600. I am keeping the stock rockers too. Let me here some opinions...

If I were you, here's what I'd do. Stay below .550 lift. Get a cam that peaks at 6-6200. The RPM's may be worse for springs than lift at times. I am using 918 springs. So far, they have proven reliable in many applications I've been acquainted with.

I was planning on going with the TR224 .581 @112

Do you think this is too much lift to be reliable? I should not have to rev past 6400 with this cam. I will be changing to aftermarket lifters, pushrods, springs, and Ti retainers.

Popular cam. That much lift can be tough on springs. It is really gonna depend on how you treat the car, post-install. Heat cycle the springs a couple of times and don't slam on it until you reach operating temp and you'll enjoy extended spring life. At that rate, you'll probably get 20K or more from the springs but that estimate drops in relation to your driving style! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> I can encourage you...ask questions, do your homework and you'll be rewarded with a reliable valvetrain and car.

I have a 224/224 .581/.581 cam. Got the comp springs to match it and chromoly pushrods. Speed shop I bought that from said as long as you let the spring warm up, you wont have a problem.

If you are concerned about drive train reliabilty the Thunder 224/224 561/561 lift is a good choice and would be easier on your valve springs. I would also go with a dual spring. Rev 1116s will fit without maching your heads. You might also want to see if Comp has released their version of dual springs that fit without maching the heads.

How would double springs fare against such cams (.580-.590) in terms of longivity?
