I think there are no answers because it is kind of a lame *** question. You might want to reword your question as extended performance is not right or it might say that in the fine print somewhere or there. the only mobile one oil we all know about is either 5-30 syn or 10-30 syn and that is about it and that is only the synthetics!

I have not heard of the "extended performance" oil, but I put the 5w-40 in my car and my oil pressure went up 10psi. I think I will be running it in my car for years to come. Very happy with it.

Mobil 1 did indeed bring out a new oil called Extended performance, it's rated for 15,000 miles or one year. It's additive package is a bit more robust than the regular Mobil 1 synthetic, and they also now offer a 10w40! It looks like an interesting oil, the 5w30 version of it is slightly thicker than their regular 5w30 synthetic, so it should work out better in the LS1.

This new oil comes in 5w30, 10w30, 10w40 and 15w50. They will continue to offer the regular Mobil 1 as well, in 0w30, 5w30, 10w30, 5w40 and 0w40. They have dropped the 0w20, and now offer a 5w20.

Patman, have you gotten your hands on this stuff yet? How does it compare to what else is on the market? And is it a good thing to go so long between oil changes? I thought part of the 3-5k intervals was b/c particles and such get into the oil and should be removed?

I won't be using this oil since I love the results I've gotten from GC 0w30 and have a ton of it stockpiled. As long as they continue to sell it, I'll continue to use it.

It's too soon to say for sure how the new M1 compares to other oils. That info won't come until a lot of people have run it and done oil analysis on it.

3-5k intervals are not necessary, anything big that gets into your oil will be captured by the oil filter anyhow. And unless your engine is not in good tune, you shouldn't get much fuel in the oil. The main concern, as far as contamination goes, is keeping dirt out. But with a good air filter and good intake system with no leaks, this isn't a problem. If you live in a very dusty area, such as where there are a lot of dirt roads, you might want to change it sooner. But most people that do 3-5k changes with synthetic are changing their oil far too soon. I see lots of oil analysis with people who go only 3-5k and the oil comes back still in almost like new condition. Beginning this spring I'm going to start following my oil life monitor, so my oil changes will end up being as long as 8k, and certainly no less than 6k.

I used BG Hi-LO 0-30W last time. It's rated for 15,000 miles also. I changed at 7,000 and it looked pretty black, and that's with adding a couple of quarts between the changes. I don't know that I'll go so long this time - maybe 5-6000. Then again, my driving includes a lot of short trips.

my understanding of oil turning black like that is the heating cycle...aka racing and short in town drives where the oil doesn't really stay hot for awhile

You cannot determine the condition of the oil by its color. If you want to know what shape your oil is in you should do an oil analysis.

I totally agree. Penzoil (the yellow death) looks like tar after 3000 miles I've changed enough oil to know that. I hate putting that crap into someones motor but some people like it. I seen the inside of motors that ran it and they were covered in gummy goey crap. mobil 1 with twice the mileage on the motor and longer service intervals still has the inside of motors clean and pretty nice looking. pull a valve cover off a car that ran mobil 1 and one off a car that ran some non-synthetic oil that is of low quality and you'll see a difference thats for sure.

All I know is David Vizard still swears by the stuff-he says the comercials about wear are true! It really helps prevent motor wear. Have any of you guys heard of an adititve called Oil Extreme? Apparantley in dyno testing it has shown increase of 5-6RWHP and the same for torque. Apparantly it helps keep the oil in place where it should be and out of places it need not be. It could all be horseshit but usually David Vizard knows his stuff.

How much did he get out of the tornado he placed in his intake?
