Default trouble with jpr tool

hi, i got both rods in and 3 lifters on the passenger side are not locked in. i stuck all the push rods back in to see if any were moving. i even tried to switch the left and right rods around and that didn't work. my car only has 15000 miles, i thought that maybe i wouldn't even need them. i'm a little unsure of the pen magnets and i did a search but couldn't find any solid info. any suggestions?

Try turning the cam few times and try to insert the JPR rod again. It should work. Its really hard to get it wrong. I hope that helps.

I had a similar problem. I decided to remove the JPR tool and just use pen magnets. Or in your case, just leave the rods in and use magnets on the rest of the lifters. It sounds like you'd only need 3 pen magnets.

Good luck!

I had no problem either, I used long water pump bolts in the end of the cam and spun it real fast by hand, my rods slide right in perfect first time.

I have done at least 20 cam installs and have used the magnets each time, maybe I have just been lucky, but even on high milage motors 80K + I have never had a lifter drop. Just spin the cam as quickly as possible and if you are unsure on a few lifters use a pushrod to push them down,re insert the magnet on top of the lifter and spin the cam again and notice where the height of the magnet is, after a few of them you will get comfortable with where the correct height will be.
