Default LS6 cam swap question

What exactly will i need for the ls6 cam swap?

I have the 02+ LS6 cam
02+ LS6 Springs
Can i reuse my stock Ls1 retainers?
Can i reuse my stock Pushrods? or do i need the longer 7.4" pushrods since the ls6 cam is 0.050" smaller base circle ?
I have the thunder racing gasket kit...
Car has 28k miles so im not getting a new oil pump or timing chain.

What happens if i install the ls6 cam with the stock ls1 pushrods?

Am i missing anything else?

If i need new pushrods can someone give me the part number or where i could get a good deal on LS6 pushrods?

Thanks

All you NEED is the cam and the springs. The cam will run just fine with the stock pushrods, retainers, and all that good stuff.

You will be fine with the parts you mentioned, but just a couple of sugestions...If you have the funds pick up the 918 springs for around 140-150 incase you want to go bigger on the cam(believe me a lot of peeps do) spend the money on hardend pushrods now or you might second guess yourself later( i have installed 20 plus cams for some of the guys around the ATL and I have seen these concerns come up time & again.) Let me repeat these are only sugestions, your set up will be just fine as is. ken

We generally put a 7.450" pushrod in this application. GM made the 02 and up LS6 valves approximatley 0.030" longer to compensate for the smaller base circle on the cam. You can order from SDPC part number MAN25736 --

The 7.400" length will work, but it can be a problem when trying to get the right amount of preload in the lifter. Sometimes it is just too short to get sufficient lifter preload. Every engine is a creature of its own! I have seen them work and I have also seen some problems.
I personally have used the new LS6 springs with a 0.560" lift cam and drove the **** out of it without any problems! For the money they are a great buy.

if you afford to upgrade the rest of your valvetrain its a good idea but its not necessary.
