you take it to a machine shop that has a crank balancer.
the crank balancer spins the crank and tells you where the weight need to be added or removed.

Forgive me for being stupid but if a crank is bought balanced then I assume it was already done and is ready to install?

You have to bring your rotating assembly...pistons/rods/crank; sometimes dampner and flywheel to an engine shop to get it all balanced properly.

So there is almost no way you can put your own engine together unless you have the machine to balance this stuff? Do you have to have it all balanced together or can you do seperate pieces? Like if all you already got the crank balanced and just need the rest done?

Don't try it. Hire an engine builder.

Im sure its always the safest bet to hire someone who has done this hundreds of times before. But still, what harm would it be to fill us in on the black art of engine balancing. What tools are used? Where is material taken off? Is that material grinded off or drilled out?Ive heard that a normal balance job costc $150 - $200. On one hand, why not pay someone since its so cheap. On the other hand, how much work could it possibly be if shops only charge $150.

This is also what I have been told. I wonder how advantageous the balancing is for a motor that will see 7000rpm many times?

I was just looking into it since I love working on my engine and challenging myself with new stuff. It costs so damn much to have it all installed in a block.

You can still build it yourself, just have an engine builder balance it for you.
