Default Plastic Lifter "holders"

Not sure as to their actual name, but regarding these...i saw on a show this weekend an ls1 being built, (on spike tv, not my fav but anyways) they mentioned they got their heads from W2W so already im thinking they MIGHT know what they are talking about...

but the question is, they drilled holes in the plastic holders to help with oil flow so that it doesnt get caught up there and just sit...is there ANY truth to this? also, is there any thought to hydrolic vs solid lifters in this particular situation?

thanks for your input!
