Default AFR 205 component pictures

Anyone have a picture of the AFR 205 Stage 1.5's right 'out-of-the box" , which they can post or email me? I'm about ready to buy a set, but, I want to see that I can bolt these on myself without doing anything to them.

... lookin' too tempting to pass up. Man, this is going to set me back sooooooooooo far on my credit card, but, I've gotta' have a set of the AFR 205's. Jerami, I'll go with the unmilled if you still think that's the way to go with my setup ... makes sense to me. How long you think it will take me for the total install ... removing all the hardware from off the top of them?

no,not yet. i'll be installing them on the 18th of march. depending on the cam you choose, you should mill the heads for max power. if you dont,at least use a thinner head gasket..040 cametic gasket to up the compression. if you don't use the thinner gasket, you will loose some compression.look at the post a few slots down. AFR205'S AND G5X3 AND LSX 90mm hp#'S. read what tony from afr wrote in. goodluck to ya bro.

I think milling would be VERY worthwhile as you suggested, however, I only have an even split 220/.553 cam. Now, if I had that larger cam, I'd definitely have the heads milled. Thinner gasket will be what I use, for sure. You got me thinking a bigger cam with milling.

Told Jerami how broke I would be after buying heads and he gave me a great alternative (unmilled 5.3's) if I can't spend the money for AFR's. Damn, these things ain't cheap. How much extra is the milling usually? Hell, with it ... I'm going with the AFR's !!!!! Damn credit card people!!!! They'll love me more-than-ever now ...

Themore reason to mill with a 220 cam there is no PTV clearance issues and you could mill a nice .040.

i never said to not mill the AFR's, those were the 5.3's remember . i would mill the AFR's .024 to get the 62cc and run the .040 - .045 cometic. the tight quench and added compression will aid in giving you a nice tq curve.

I would mill the AFRs down to 62cc (mine were). With a little shopping around, you can get the heads for around $2200-$2300 total with milling and shipping.

Just so you know, milling will be cheaper than the thin head gaskets. The gaskets are pretty expensive. I elected to mill the heads for higher compression, then run the stock $25 set of head gaskets instead of the $150 Cometics. I like the reliability of an OEM gasket, although I've never seen the Cometics so they may be just as good. I've done the minimum quench dance on my 540 BBC (with AFR heads), and it never really panned out into anything I could feel. It wasn't worth the effort and expense to me, so I didn't worry too much about it on the LS1. If you really want the best possible dyno numbers you'll need to both mill and spend for the gaskets, but we're not talking about very big changes here. It all depends on how far you're going with your build, and how much stuff you're going to change.

A tighter quench is simply one of the things that you should do to ward of detonation with a higher compression assembly.

Got it (I think). Cometics gaskets (.40-.45), AFR 205 Stage 1.5' cylinder heads milled .024 to achieve 62cc chamber size for max quench. Anything else I need to know? Do they come with head bolts from AFR? Will my hardened Thunder Racing 7.40 pushrods still be OK (probably a dumb question)? Is there any stock parts I should replace or upgrade while I have the heads off? I sure don't want to have to re-do this again.

Man, you folks are helpful and I sure appreciate your input. Jerami was correct in saying unmilled for the 5.3's. I went back and corrected my mistake. Sorry to misquote you Jerami ... old age, I guess ... see what you guys have to look forward to? LOL!
