Default Coil bind?

Absolute Speed 5.3 L Stg 2 heads, 2.04/ 1.575 valves 978 springs
I just measured my intake valve spring install height at 1.830", should be 1.850". I want to run a .588 lift xer lobe, but am concerned because I have only .047 clearance from coil bind. 1.830 minus .588= 1.242 minus 1.195 coil bind =.047 clearance. Terry from Racetech has graciously offered to make me some retainers ~+ .025 that will fit and resolve my problem. For this I am very appreciative. I'm pretty certain this will work, however anybody got any better ideas?

Have the spring pockets cut down and use a thinner shim under the spring.

0.047" clearance isn't so bad before coil bind.

If you have correct open pressure at that height, there's not much to worry about.

Just for comparison, I'm about 0.041" before coil bind with 322# at the open
height.

If you're still concerned, you can try offset locks. They work on the same basis
as an offset retainer.

That might save you some cash and get you the install height you are looking for.

Offset locks would be great except +50 locks are only made for the Super 7 format. Super 7 locks will only fit Super 7 Retainers, and I can't find super 7 reatiners to fit my springs

Ther aren't any shims under the springs and I don't know that it would be a good idea to cut the pockets any deeper. I know
I could have the valve seats cut but that can mess with the flow. The other alternative is to back cut the valves, or get a new spring kit. In the end I think Terry at Racetech will save the day by making me some retainers that will fit. There should be more guys like him around that go above and beyond.Call him for your valve train needs.
