Torquer + 918's = BOOM ?

Am I gonna be okay with 918's and this cam with lift of .589 ? I called TSP and they said I would be okay and comp claims them to be good to .600 but I am just woried about breakin a spring and ruining my engine.... can anyone reassure me ?

918 springs are pretty good.I've run them on .595 lift Cams with no problems revving to 7000rpm.

If you are that concerned I'd say go with a set of PRC dual's for piece of mind. Spend a little extra now, or a lot later

Turo Mar 7, 2005 09:14 PM

Another vote for the PRC's, the peace of mind alone is worth it

Tranzor Mar 7, 2005 09:56 PM

I don't think that you should worry about Comps... they'll handle that amount of pressure. Just make sure you check them at decent enough intervals.

TVWilkes Mar 7, 2005 10:29 PM

PRC springs will give you peace of mind.PM or call if you need more info. :)

As far as 918's go,PRC now has a line of titanium retainers to fit the comp 918 springs. ;)

I put that cam in my car Sunday and PRC springs just to be safe. My cam card said it is 233/233 .595"/.595" lift if that matters.

itchygomey98 Mar 8, 2005 12:23 AM

I have the exact setup you are worried about. If it won't work, someone should have told my car because I have had no booms yet.

44mag Mar 8, 2005 12:28 AM

Comp 918s are excellent springs. people have run them over .600 lift and past 7k rpm. TSP wouldnt tell you they would handle it if they wouldnt.

true....

The beehive springs are better than any duals in the range they handle if properly installed. I run mine on .581 XE-R lobes.
They are lighter
Better harmonics

Since the "blue" ones came out, there has been very few failures.
I used to have single spring phobia from reading some "early" comp failures "green" and most poeple preaching the dual safety issue, just as the double roller bandwagon.
918's are some of the best on the market.

its good to hear that I am safe to run them from u, u r quite knowladgeable about springs.... so i will rest easy, especially since my springs were installed by a local shop, NickN20 so i kno he knows what he is doing, i have nothing to worry about....

Nate_Taufer Mar 8, 2005 02:41 AM

918's have a lot more balls than most people think. they are a hell of a spring and can handle more than .600 lift unlike their advertised max lift from comp. i wouldn't think twice about putting them in your car.

Yeap, if you remember they were rated at .620 or .625 before the 921's were released. Hmmm

I just ordered the same cam and went with the dual springs for $100 more.If you drop a valve when the single breaks is gonna be a mess.also on TSP's web site the 233/233 grind shows 589/589...didnt get mine yet(in transit)but wonder if its been updated??

CAT3 Mar 8, 2005 05:44 AM

I would go duals, not for "POM" as much as frequent changing. I had the 918s on with my TSP 231/237 with slightly more lift than the torquer and was no problem. Ran that same set on my old TR224 as well, total of over 18mo's/ 15,000miles/500track passes. But, to do it all over again, I would go doubles as ever time I raced I prayed the springs wouldnt break.

:jest: I pray that my rear will hold, that my tranny will hold, that my N2O noids wont stick, that my oil pump will hold, that I will hook, that the other guy/girl doesn't cross the line, and finaly that I win the race.

But no i have faith in my 918's

Charlie

ye of little faith. I'll run a 918 hands down. .615" XER lobes driven and raced daily.

What install height? I thought that the 918's would handle .650 lift maxed out. Lightweight is good. :)

Unaffliated Racing Mar 8, 2005 11:02 AM

That is just one of the cams I personally run. They are set-up at a standard 1.800" and yes at that height the 918 is good for a .650" lift and still .065" before coil bind :)
