Default Top end troubleshooting...

00 Z28 M6

Engine was ticking, suspected bent pushrods. Suspected right. Took off the valvecovers, popped off the rocker arms, found a couple bent ones and a couple marginally bad ones...replaced those with straight stock ones, made sure all of the pushrods were okay. Put them back in, reattached rockers...tightened to 22 ft/lb, rotated engine 180 degrees & rechecked torque (<-- per ls1howto.com). Put valvecovers etc back on.

Started it up, ran great, ticking gone. Drove easily to gas station, drove great. Took it 5 miles today to take pix, also ran great. On the way back I flashed the throttle to hear the exhaust in the parking deck (4,000rpm or so rev). Ever since then the ticking is back and may even sound worse.

Did I mess something up in the install, or is there more to this problem?? My car only has a couple boltons, nothing internal/major.

Thanks in advance....

A rocker bolt may have worked its way loose. It does not take long to pop the valve covers again and check. What caused you to bend pushrods the first time? What all is done to the motor...cam? rockers? springs? hardened pushrods?

Worked its way loose in the matter of one day? It was an over-rev that caused it. Everything internal is stock.

Yup if you didn't use thread locker or some sort of silicone to keep em tight they will easily work their way loose.
