Default Removing Valve springs & retainers?

I have a valve spring tool. The type that go over the spring and retainer and turn a screw handle to compress the spring. I can't get the keepers to loosen up & come out. What am I doing wrong. The heads are off the car.

are the springs compressed? if they are take a small brass hammer and tap on each side of the retainer, them lil ******* like to stick on there and theres nothing holding up the other side of the valve. If youre doing it with the heads off the car, stick something on the valve side of the head to support the vavle, otherwise the valve will go down as you compress the spring play with it youll figure it out....i changed a set of spring in like 15 min with the heads off piece of cake....good luck

Your valve maybe opening up as you compress the spring. Put somthing under the head to hold the valve up. Hope this helps.
