Default Cam to replace my 224/228?

OK, I'm thinking about replacing my 224/228 581 112 XER but not sure which way to go. 6 speed with 4.10's. Looking for noticeable midrange and high end gain over mine. I've seen quite a few ?'s about the Trex and MS3 as well as the FM13/14. My idle already sucks, so that's not an issue. I've run 12.13 at 118.49 on DR's with a bogging 1.89 60 time. I miss the kind of idle my Hotcam car had. I don't want to worry about ptv clearance, I don't drive it everyday anymore, I have Patriot gold dual springs. Thanks for any ideas.

well, u just said idle is not an issue...but then u said u miss the hotcam idle. was the hotcam idle rough or smooth?? id suggest a futral cam. go to ls1sounds.com to the camshafts section. there are several clips on there of futral cams...f11 and f13 i believe. im not sure if its the lobes they use or not, but even the bigger cams on 112lsa idle like 114s...its crazy. blake has 2 sound clips on there of his on a 112 and it sounds silky smooth nice cam blake

The rhythm of my current cam's idle is retarded sounding, where my hotcam sounded mean and nasty.

I went from a 224/228 cam to the X3 and was blown away with the difference! I picked up roughly 30 rwhp and 20 rwtq with JUST the cam swap, well, plus the Comp 921's, but that's it.

Just a suggestion. By the way, I will be swapping out the X3 for an X4, will let you know what that cam does

Looking on Thunder's site, they show a 99 bolt on Trex car putting down 451. I'm assuming that's with 3.42's. That would be about 30rwhp more than mine with my 4.11's I assume. That would be worth it period.

Keep in mind not many Trex cars put down that 451rwhp.

Yea, I kind of figured that. I have a friend in Orlando who has just put in a Trex and Jethot longtubes. His is a 02 6 speed with 3.42's, just what everyone seems to go and dyno. He also has a lid and UD pulley with a Magnaflow catback, so I'd say a pretty much 100% bolt on car with the "good" heads. We'll see what he lays down.

3.42's are pushing it with that cam, you should really be running 4.10's to take full advantage of it and to increase the drivability of the car. My X3 drives great, we'll see what the X4 does

Oh yea, I know that. I'm just talking about all the dyno queen number posting that goes on. I'd say 85 percent or more are still running stock 3.42's which tells you they SUCK at the track. Mine put down 391/373 SAE with the stock TB. Haven't been back to see what my shaner S3 is worth.

Yeah LG's G5X3 and X4, don't know the specs on either cam, they are BIG though, built with stock heads in mind, which is what I run, so they seem to work great! I will see what the X4 offers over the X3 come Tuesday, but overall I have been pleased with the X3, definitely one of the best cams out there for a cam only car.

Since you're worried about PTV clearence and want something big, I sugest my cam, the TSP235/240 112. No flycutting with stock heads, mean idle, good torque and excellent power. As for the mid range, the motor will pull the car at 145 mph in 6th gear at 3600 rpm; that impressed me.
