Default Motor build up questions?

I'm gonna be starting to build my new motor for my car. Wanting to stay between $7-8K. got the heads off my old motor and wandering what kind of porting I should do for FI (turbo). What compression, boost, and bottom end for around 600 hp at the motor. Thanks alot. Can't wait to get started.....by the way the $7-8 is not including the turbo kit.

What heads do you have now? What CR was the previous motor? Do you have a turbo in mind? Do you want to run a mix of 93/100? I would build a 8.5-9.0:1 CR 347 with forged rods/pistons, ARP mains, rod bolts and head studs...depending on how much boost you want to run. That should come in way under the $7-8k. If you want to spend every dime of that, you can always go up in cubes. Definately do a search for Harland, he knows a thing or two about FI.

The heads are off my LS1 that was previously in my car (it blew up but heads are still good). The $7-8K is the absolute most i wanted to spend on the motor build up. Was expecting to pay that much for heads getting ported/polished/milled ect., FI cam, and a really strong short block, forged pistons/rods ect. I don't want this thing to break for a long time thats why I'm willing to spend the money it takes to do that. In the way of the turbo I'm new to the whole FI thing and i don't know what turbo i need to make the power i want. Any input??

Thanks,
You should be able to do the stock crank, forged rods/pistons route and come in under budget and be plenty strong. You will need a low compression piston and get your heads done with bigger CC's. It would probably be easier to get a set of 6.0L heads done and match them up with a rotating assy to get your desired CR. Definatly spend some time in the FI section.
