Default Car has almost no low end power!! Need help!

Hey guys I just recently took my car to the track and ran a 8.8 on the 1/8 at Irwindale. Oddly my car got progressively slower, my second pass was an 9.0 and the third was worse still at 9.1. After the launch I felt the car verry slugish up to 3000 rpm's where it felt good. my car consistenly did this. I have Jet hot lt's, custom catted y that leaks at the flanges and the driver side cat is leaking from a gash about an eighth of an inch wide by 3 inches long. it is running on the stock I pipe and has a flowmaster muffler with 2 1/2 inch tail pipes. I know the whole exhuaust system is shitty but this is the best I can do for 300 bucks. I would like to think this is the problem but doubt it. please help!!!!!!! any responses will be greatly appreciated.

You posted times, but not mph. What was your speed? If this is a 6 speed car I would check your clutch as long as the mph was there.

my mph for my first 8.8 pass was 82mph. 9.0 pass was 80 mph. 9.1 pass was the same 80 mph. I also got a second 8.8 pass which had the highest 83 mph. this pass was actually a 8.847 and my first pass was a 8.821 at 82 mph. My 83 mph pass was after I let the car cool down for an hour. My car is a 6spd.

The leaks in the exhaust can really mess things up by letting O2 in and having the oxygen sensors richen up the mixture. What were your 60ft times.

my best 60 ft was 2.1, and the rest were2.2's. funny though, I had a 2.2 60 ft and made higher mph than my 2.1 60 ft.

I'm not sure if you are being vicious but I know mines was a pig as far as low end torque is concerned. With current cam (see sig) which has o degs. advance built into it I found myself adding 10 degs. in the lower load/rpm range.BTW and that was done with no k.r.!!!!

I think the leaky cats and exhaust is definately causing you problems down low. For low-end torque, you need some backpressure with the exhaust...and the flowmaster combined with all the other problems pretty much kills any backpressure. Also, stroked was somewhat right about the O2 problem. However, that issue depends on several factors, such as how the weather is, the length of time the car has been running and how it is been driven in the last few minutes. The first thing I would work on would be the exhaust, what better chance for headers and to get rid of those slowmasters.

Good luck.

You need a new tuner if your car has no low end a 212/218 should make great low end power.
