Blackbird...Before the spring upgrade, I would shift at 6000, after I would shift as close to 6600 as I could, 6400, 6500, just trying to miss bumping the rev limit...

Vettenuts...I think the difference in cam dimensions was close enough that the lifters adjusted for the difference...Far as I know, the LS6 and LS1 used the same rockers and same pushrods, only the springs were different...

Peace...Gman

Check out the Vinci website and their explanation of the Crane "Quick-Lift" rocker body geometry. It makes a lot of sense after you read it. He installed them on my 03 Tahoe and it really woke the thing up. Super quiet, too. Probably quieter than stock. The whole kit came with rockers, studs, guideplates and HD pushrods of proper length. We didn't dyno my truck, but one of the tech editors of one of Primedia's magazines was there working on a 03 Pickup with a 5.3 and they dynoed his truck and the rockers were worth 20hp. (On a HP/$ basis, that sure isn't bad!!) The entire article will be out in a couple of months. Chevy High Performance, I think.

Just want to be clear, you are speaking of a Crane 1.8 installation on a stock cam, correct?

Thanks

That is correct. We are doing a series of modifications to the truck. After each install the truck goes back on the dyno. A lot of work to do each mod individually, but makes for good reading.

actually, SLP no longer has the 1.85 rockers. They aren't advertising it on their website but if you order rockers, you'll get 1.8 Harlen Sharp rockers or Yella Terra rockers.

I don't know if they make them for the LS1, however Crower has .050 and .090 backspaced rockers. They work well for larger ratios and taller valves, keeping the rocker correctly positioned over the valve.

You are correct!!! They now have Harlan Sharp build the rockers for them and anodize them silver instead of orange. SLP is charging $499 and it's the same $320 Harlan Sharps!!!!!

I can still get the 1.85 from an SLP dealer that has them in stock. So thats not a problem.

But about the VHP rockers I am kinda confused how it was saying that the 1.7 rockers changes ratios to a 1.6 and back. Wouldnt it be better to stay at the 1.7 ratio? Someone please explain this to me cuz I'm not getting it.

Hello. You are confusing the stock rocker ratio with ours. With the stock "1.7" rocker the valve comes off the seat at a ratio of 1.54 and is 1.7 at max lift. With our 1.7 rockers the valve comes off the seat at a ratio of 1.79 and is 1.72 at max lift. Our 1.8 rockers are 1.89 ratio and 1.82 at max lift. Here is a link to a detailed explanation of quick lift geometry

I wonder what the rocker arm ratio for the LS2 & LS7 are. If they are greater than 1.7s and would fit the LS1/6 heads, then that might make a pretty good upgrade too.

I'm happy with the way the SLP 1.85s works with my tiny cam. It really woke up the top end. It netted me a solid 2 mph gain in the traps. It feels like it added some oomph in the 2000-3000 rpm range too.
