So...with the rising cost of gasoline these days, the forecast of higher costs of fuel, and no real reliefe in sight, what can everyone tell me about alternative fuels. I'm not talking hydrogen and fuel cell technology but I'm talking ethonal, alky, ect. Stuff that burns clean, is renewable, and will still make the internal combustion engine run. As far as changing a gas motor over to burn on one of the other fuels, what would one need to do. I'm assuming things like valve seats would need to become more heat resistance, along with valves and pistons. CRs and timing curves would need to change too.
Also, those who know more about alternative fuels, what is the reality of this being a solution? Are we finally at a point that we're getting more energy out of the corn and barley used to make the fuel than we are putting into it? How much cleaner does it really burn than crude based fuels to be able to shut the enviromental wackos up?
