Default What Cam Should I Get?

I am looking to break into the 11's NA. I dont want heads yet, but I will probably get some eventually. I want the car to sound like it is cammed, but not be to rough for the street (it is my only car). I would like to have a lot of top end pull since i already have a stall converter.

I run 7.7 in the 1/8th mile with a 1.67 60 foot. However when I run a mostly stock 6 speed from a roll I get walked on... I want to walk them from a roll so I guess cam is what i should be doing next. I want to spend around 1,000 dollars for the whole reliable cam package (new or used).

Thanks guys, blackout@cybergrounds.com or PM me if you have a complete cam package you want to sell me...

With the mods you have, I think a mid-sized cam (like TR224) would be plenty enough to get you there if your suspension is setup right for drag racing.

You don't mention any suspension mods, but the best way for you to get the numbers you want is by tuning the suspension to get that power to the ground... LCAs, torque arm, QA1 shocks, etc. all help a lot. I'd also get rid of the heavy front tires when you go to the track... skinnies will help your cause a lot.

Those things plus a mid-sized cam will let you run 11s all day long...

You run a 7.7 in the 1/8 that should be an 11 in the 1/4 with a 1.67 short time shouldn't it? My 1/8th was 7.7 and I ran a 12.00 at 115mph with a 1.73 60 foot. The 224 cam had it's time and that time has past. Now it's bigger. With the tuning capabilities of today you can get a T-Rex to idle and drive like a 224 as far as around town. So, I'd recommend somewhere between an FM11 cam from Futral and a T-Rex from Thunder if on stock heads for an off the shelf cam.

I am looking for something with a medium idle... not rough. This is my only car that I will have for quite some time and I need it to be good on the street AND at the track.

The F-13 seems like it would be pretty rough am I right?

Futral cams have no business idling as well as they do. Its almost unfair to the other cam companies how drivable their grinds are. Unless youre building a race car or other purpose built car, i dont know why youd go with anything other than futral.

Id say either f-11 or f-13. Check out some cam sounds on ls1sounds.com and see what they idle like. Even though the f-13 may claim to be a rough idle, its still pretty docile, though i cant say too much till ive got my own installed.

Should i be looking at the same cam? F-11 or F-13? Looks like the F-13 is my choice, i'm stock for now, only SLP exhaust, but i'll have air lid and jet hot (or pacesetter) headers and y pipe. Should i go a different way or should the F-13 work for me too?

I don't. If I did it over I'd get the 13, but the 11 is a damn nice cam. I think Futral said the 13 is worth about 5 more rwhp over the 11.

Will this cam buck and surge to an annoying degree? I dont mind some variation in sound and a little bit of shaking, but i dont want to have to apply the break extra hard every 2 seconds to keep it from moving with the surge, My buddy has a T-rex and I love the car, but its too much for me for daily driving. I dont want the car to sound like it is going to choke out every time i start it, but i love that variation in the sound that makes it sound modified, as long as its not too extreem. I dont want something that is going to scare the average person to death, just in case i want to sell the car one day.

No, it won't buck too much with an F13... my car has a TSP 231/237 cam in it with slower lobes and it's supposedly less daily driver friendly... and it isn't bad at all.

What 1/4 mile times / dyno numbers should I get?

Best of 7.7 so far in the 1/8th mile. Havnt run the 1/4 recently.
