Default Engine temp question

I am running a 160 stat and my car, 98 TA, seems to run about 200-212 most of the time. This reading is not on the gauge but on my scanmaster. This is also in trafic on a 55-60 degree day. At speed the temps drop down to 195-198. I have a procharger on the car and a single fan but shouldnt the car run in the 170-180 range due to the stat or do I need to have the cooling fan come on earlier. The car was purchased a few months ago from a guy in Indiana and most of the work and the tune were done by EPP. More than likely they would have set the fan to come on at a lower temp but I cannot be sure, short of having someone with the proper equipment check to see. It appears that the coolant overflow is full and I am assuming the cooloing system is free of air bubbles. Other than the fan turn on point or a bad stat I am kind of lost.

sounds like the fans need to come on earlier, IMHO
is the procharger intercooled? im sure it is but still, blowers generate much heat.

I am running a 160 as well, and my temp guage is always around 205 same as you, but when I hooked a scan tool up to the car it showed 180-185. My first cooling fan comes on at 180. I just assumed that guage was off. I posted quite a while ago about it and others agreed the guage did not read correct.
