What cam only setup to choose on a C5?
Hi guys,
I have a 2000 C5 coupe automatic. Right now I am running long tube headers, intake, and catback. I am looking for some extra hp so I am thinking of a cam only setup. I will be running a stock torque converter and 3.15 gears. I want this cam to be emmissions legal in MA and relatively driveable. I have been recommended to the TR224/224 114lsa by one vendor, but another vendor told me symmetrical cams dont do as well on LS1s. This same vendor also said I would need to upgrade to a higher stall TC or I would experience surging and the car would be less driveable.
I am wondering what your recommendations are for a cam setup being that I will remain with the stock TC and how much extra power I can expect out of that cam. Also, is it necessary to replace pushrods, retainers, gaskets, seats, seals or are the ones I currently have reuseable? thanks a lot.

id think to stay w/ the stock verter and pass emissions ud have to go with one of the smaller off the shelf cams in the 216-218 range, maybe 220. You wont gain much hp unless u get a really good tune. Id def recommend a valvetrain upgrade with any cam swap!
Personally, i deal with Speed Inc and FMS so id give them a call and see what they think. Just my opinions

get a small converter like a TCI SF3000, it will wake the car up so much, u'll think u changed the cam... and u'll never feel it after the 1st day... THEN get a TR220/114 or 224/114 and good tune... if u decide u still need more...
