I chose Mobil 1 0W40 yesterday to do my oil change =) I've heard it's some of the best stuff out there.

I can't believe people make posts about oil. Any decent brand changed on time every time should be just fine and show no major diffrences between another. FWIW, I choose Mobil 1 oil and filters.

A lot of people find they burn oil when using Mobil 1 5w30 though, so switching to something thicker like German Castrol does make a difference, since then many will find they don't burn as much oil.

Sure, if you're going to trade your car in before you hit 100k, no matter what oil you run you'll be fine. But if you drive it very hard and plan on keeping it much longer than 100 or 150k, then the choice of oil you make becomes critical. It could be the difference between getting 200k or getting 250k out of your engine before it starts showing signs of getting tired. The idea is to choose an oil which shows you the least amount of engine wear, so it remains in excellent condition as long as possible. A good oil keeps the insides nice and clean too, which in the long run it means you won't lose compression (which would mean you'd lose horsepower too)
