Oil Splay Valve

Is there any way to check/determine if the oil splay( sp??? ) valve at the back of the black has been installed or not?

I am helping a guy finish installing the motor that he build and he can not remember if he installed it or not.

Is the trans already installed? If not, just take off the rear cover and check. It will cost you a rear crank seal if you arent careful but thats better than a rebuild...

Unfortunately it is. The transmission and shortblock are in the car right now. We are hoping there is a way to verifiy it is installed so that we do not have to yank the ranny and shortblock out.
