Default crane cams

Well, one great day on the crapper, i was reading chevy high performance and read about the crane hand held. Would this be able to tune there 228/232 good enough for every day driving? Also, would this cam be ok for stock heads?

The Crane/VINCI handheld is a good tuning tool. Only 3 things I do not like about it:

1- You cannot adjust your shift points (it raises the limiter points only by 300 rpm on any performance cam tunes)
2- The innability to chose the level of fuel enrichment (ie: from 3000rpm up or down etc...)
3- The innability to choose TM decrease or removal. It is preset and in some cars (mine) that wasn't enough.

Otherwise it is a good tool tailored to their VINCI/Crane cams, but will still work well on cams that do not require more than 6100 rpm shift pints.

Being overseas and no place to tune here, I finally resorted to have Nelson Performance do mail tune, and with HPT I would be able to upgrade via e-mail. Expensive but it works.

Thanks for the info, how well did just the HP tuner work for you?

HPT is IMO the best out there now. But it requires lots of research to understand the parameters and its tech.
Once you get the basics down though it becomes fun.
Bottom line a good basic knowledge of EFI tuning is a must. Their site and forums is great but patience is needed.
lots of people here too always willing to help.

One of my good friends goes to UT, areospace eng. and so on. He can help me out a great deal with the program, so you think it would me worth it to get the HP tuner instead of the crane tunner? Sounds like there is more you can do with the HP tuner in the long run.

Yeah, HPT would be better.
Also what are the full cam specs @ .050?

228/232 XXX/XXX XXXlsa?

It has durations similar to FM11, if you haven't bought it yet FM cams are the S..T!!

i believe the 228/236 has a .600/.600. The reason i am really looking into this cam is because the shop is down the street from me and will give me a good deal!

Hmm, not a small cam, bigger than FM11. That one should rock on a 112.
With even lifts it should have a nice flat curve too.
just post a thread like "anyone have Crane 228/236, .600/.600 xxxlsa?" maybe someone that has it can chime in with personal feedback.
