I'm looking to build an engine and would really love to run the aluminum block but, every knowledgeable sponsor I've asked said no to the aluminum block at the power levels I was seeking no matter what modifications.

I would guess the sponsors would rather use the Iron block because it is stronger. Most of them offer some kind of warrenty and they would rather supply a iron with a warrenty the the aluminum with a warrenty.
The Iron block is only a little heavier, and if your planning on 900+ HP then your basicially a complete drag car. if your gonna have a complete drag car then I am sure you will take out way more then the 80lbs your adding back in.
