ok,u talked me into it..LS6 into 2k SS
i cant take it anymore, i'll just put entire LS6 in instead of cam/head swap on my 2k SS, but i don't have cam, intake or electronics....what all will i need to do this right and make it haul? what cam, and intake?what will it take for my computer to work this deal? any web site that details building these LS6's. figured i'd throw it on the stand and get all parts together so as to minimize downtime...thaks for giving me the initiative and info to GO for it
If theres nothing wrong with your LS1 motor, then its a complete waste of money to buy an LS6 crate motor. All you need is a new cam, better heads, and an LS6 intake and you'll be making more power for much less money.
Great Choice! I love my ls6 in my SS. Look in GM performance catalog, there is a ls6 service engine with camaro oil pan kit p#12498399. Check the sig for performance.
i think thedave had a previous post where he has an ls6 block at the house. i believe you might have to re-route the pcv a little but depending on if you have a full crate motor or just a block and heads. as far as the wiring harness and computer it should be plug and play, but a tune wouldnt hurt.
just got back on line, thanks for the info fatboy, yes i only have block with rotating assembly, no cam, and complete heads. what cam to use? should i just do cam and head swap? I understand the ls6 block is stronger but it supposedly performs the same....don,t want to make more work than necessary....

The only difference between the 2 are the LS6 having coated pistons. It's a myth that LS6 blocks are completely different....

Also read the the thread on the differences and you will see that the LS6 block has an improved crankcase ventilation system and had some major changes to deal with oil consumption.
"The ls1 block is a bit diff. than the ls6. The round machined hole that I think has been described is in all the ls1 block, the ls6 block has a "cast in" window at the bottom of all the cylinders that helps the cylinder to cyl. breathing. We did alot of R&D while working on the re-sleeve project and there were some diff. found after destructive testing was done. Not all but most of the ls6 blocks did sonic test up a bit thicker in some of the critical areas-Nick Agostino"
