Yeah, I meant to and forgot to ask about that. 12 degrees of split is huge. I'd bring the intake up and the exhaust down, anything. Or at least bring the exhaust down a little. Mine's a 237/242, that is a more common split. 12 is just a ton.

Even a good nitrous cam shouldn't need 12* of split.

If you hold the exaust valve open to long, you could infact induce a vacume. In this case, you would pull raw/unburnt fuel into the exaust/header causing combustion in the exaust path. This would cause poor performance because a portion of what should have been burnt in the combustion chamber in now being burnt in the exaust were it will only cause high exaust temperatures. In essence, your somewhat over scavenging. You want your motor to move air as equaly as possible and you want your combustion to take place in the combustion chamber, not the exaust path.

But having an "external combusion" engine within the exhaust system looks so cool sometimes! Race cars especially.

Not sure if the flame will make it all the way out the exaust, but it could make your headers cherry red! It all just depends on how well your exaust flows. If the exaust was severly hendered, like stock, and the intake was highly modified, you might be able to make it work, but in the world of modified LS-1's, that's not usaully the case.
