biggest cam with 59 cc ls6 'style' PP's I'm leaning towards a TR 224/224 .563/.563 @ 112 right now. We will check PtoV, but does anyone know if a bigger cam would work? 230/224 etc? It has 2.055 valves, I believe. My bud does not want to flycut. |
Those cams should fit easily. I'd reccomend the TR 230/236 with those heads though. |
59cc? Isn't that a .030 milled 66c head? If so, with those big valves, I seriously doubt a 230 will fit. |
I have those same heads and a TSP 233/233-598, no problem that I can tell, I think PP welds up the combustion chambers to achieve the smaller cc instead of milling the head, I also have the 2.055 valves. |

Yes, they do weld them up. It has been milled to 59 from the 64(?) they are from Patriot. So I'm not sure how much PtoV I'll actually have. |
the 59cc LS6 style heads use a welded up combustion chamber to achieve the chamber size and are probably not milled. measure the head from the flat surface that the valve cover mates to and the flat surface that sits against the block, if it is 4.750 give or take a couple of thousands then they are not milled. |
I spoke with the guy I got the heads from, and I believe you are right, they are welded up to 59cc. That being said, what is the biggest cam we can do with unmilled heads? |
There are many cams you could run. The only diffrence in clearence between his heads and a stock head is going to be the valve size, and that won't effect too much. Also, cam numbers play a huge role in what will or will not fit. You could prolly easily run a T-rex if you had it cut on a 112 LSA instead of a 110. Diffrent numbers do diffrent things. |
Don't waste your time running a 224/224 cam with those heads. You will be disappointed. Go bigger. Sorry not sure how big you can go before there are Piston to valve clearance issues but since they take a 6.0 liter head that has 78cc Combustion chambers to begin with and weld them up to make 59cc with no milling I would assume the piston to valve clearance is the same as stock depending on the gaskets that you use. 2 Attachment(s) i have almost the same setup... 2001 Z28 M6 car mti lid slp 85mm maf smooth bellows K&N LS6 intake asp pulley Patriot ls6 heads w/ 2.02 int 59cc chambers lunati 224/224 .560/.560 112lsa (not as agreesive lobe as a TR224) edelbrock longtubes true duals with bullets dumped before the axle w2w dyno tune dynoed as follows: mustang dyno: 351.5rwhp 323rwtq dynojet: 405.3rwhp 375rwtq Personally, i want more power, although i can tell my car is a hell of a lot faster than it was. im going to wait till i stroke my cam and put in a bigger cam. the valve size is all that limiting your cam lift, cause these heads are unmilled. id say go with something al least in the 230 range at .050. a lot of people recommended the tsp 233/239 cam to me, but that lift may be too much for you. call around and ask, but id go with at least a 231/237 and something in the .580's lift area. prob a 112 lsa for motor or 115+lsa for boost. hope this helps... |
This is not for me, its for my bud. He is going to go with the Futural F13. The heads are not milled. They have 2.055/1.057 valves. The F13 should be pretty nice. :) A good 'first cam' for him. |

Hey Greg, sorry about not getting back to your email the other day. In my researching I have not found to many guys running the 2.055 valves with the F13 cam, most are running 2.02 (like me). With the 2.055 valves you will lose about 0.0074" of p/v clearance versus a stock valve. Compared to a 2.02 intake you will lose about 0.005". Not much. You basically have the same clearances that I will have overall. I got 5.3L heads that are milled .006" to up my compression slightly. The F13 cam should work fine with those heads. Allan Futral said I could have my heads milled .015" and still clear OK (using stock MLS gaskets). There are also a few guys on here running more mill than that, but there cams are for the most part not off-the-shelf grinds. Mine is just the regular 112LSA, +4 advance. Sounds like you won't have problems running those heads and the F13 :) Now, the only concern I have is valve drop. I am not familiar with how much drop PP heads have. You might check on that. |
