Default ls1 ported heads vs ls6 heads

So I am trying to upgrade the heads on my 00 corvette and am having difficulty deciding what to do. Do you guys recommend using ported ls1 heads or should I just get the ls6 heads? What is the best bang for the buck? (not best overall, but for price)

thanks
Ben

port for port the ls6will flow better than the ls1 but ported ls1 will blow unported ls6 out of the watter. so get some ported ls6 style pp heads or tea ls1 ported heads they are both good bang for the buck.

I think it all depends on what you mean by "bang". Porting heads will definately increase the port area and increase top end power but at the cost of low down torque and port velocity. You will need to spin higher RPM to reach similar port velocities.

There is a point of max. efficiency that the cylinders can pump. Finding that point and matching it to peak effiency of ports and cam/valve events IMO is the biggest bang for buck there is.

From my understanding the LS6 heads are right about there. Mate it up to a good small-mid sized cam and you have a killer street setup that will perform equally well at the track compared to cams of much higher duration.

At least, thats what a years worth of keyboard research has lead me to believe.

Happy to be contradicted.

Cleaned up ls1 heads and a nice cam make great power for the money. But to make serious power you need to spend $$

Ported LS1 heads(done properly) will outflow and outperform stock LS6 heads. LS6 heads should give you about 20 rwhp and ported LS1 heads (with stock valves) should give you 20-30 rwhp (depending on the skill or the porter). Upgrade to ported fully LS6 heads or AFR heads and you'll be looking at more like 40 rwhp increase. Patriot heads seem to give around a 20-25 rwhp increase. These numbers are based on gains with stock cam and bolt-ons. Run a larger cam and the gains will be more for each head.

go with LS6 heads, and keep your stockers. that way when you have some more coin you can port the LS6s and really be puttin down the power

I bought a set of Ls6 heads. I figure its cheaper than the Fast intake with a lil more gains in power. I am hoping the ls6 heads will add 20ft/lbs of torque. That would make a noticable difference in power under the curve.

I would port what I have, put in a bigger cam with better springs. I did this with my sons ls1 with a fast intake 90mm, headers and custom dual x exhaust. Car went from 300 rwhp to 410 rwhp. Get the exhaust right and everything will work lots better.
