I cannot believe it either. The same shop just changed the pump before they pulled the motor because the oil pressure was like 15-25. Since I have had the car the pressure has been 40 or over. The only thin I can guess is that the person who owned it before me had the oil pump or seal changed under warrenty.
It must of happened during my 15 min. drive to the store with the radio blasting and Me not constantly watching my oil pressure (imposable) when I pulled in mr driveway 15 min. later the engine was making a rev dependent clicking sound that would go away if left at idle after a minute oil pressure was at 15-20 psi and I never saw a check guages light. Had it towed to the shop and now this.

More pics... This is one of my (2) bad rod bearings. It did not really look or feel that bad at all to me, but seeing as though they are machined to the thousands of an inch... you cannot notice it too bad by touch or sight.
Crank is getting machined next week.

Really!! I might just take you up on that offer. Would it have to also be machined, or what kind of shape and how many miles did you have on it?
I Just called the dealer and asked them to read off all the warrenty work that had been done. On 1/19/99 (Before I owned it, and the car is a 1999 model) a GM dealer replaced the crank under warrenty BINGO!!!
They are going to fax me the records.... I hope.

If they made a mistake like that they will pay for the cam for ya!!! If you really need to get that one from me it's mint condition out of my Firehawk. It looked better than the one I put in... Good shape.

Wow dont know what to say about this. Michael I hope you get this cleared up. I use those rags everyday and never did that.. But the rag just doesnt look like its been in a hot engine/hot engine oil for 4 yrs. Is the rag still red in color? If it was in there that long,4yr/40,000miles. I assume the fibers would be broken down by now. Good luck. John

Im in the process of tearing mine appart to see what the hell Hamil Motors left in my car during warrenty work. I have piston that rocks, beat to hell head, cracked bore. BOTH VALVES ARE STILL FULLY INTACK!!!!They left something in te intake, thats for sure but I didnt find out till 10000 miles later. On top of that they screwed me outta my warrenty for it because I had engine mods(borla and orp)Your not the only one who had a crappy warrenty work, but do what I just did, ORDER BIGGER AND BETTER!!!!!!!

I agree with the posts above go buy a forged bottom end and have that instead of all the money they quoted you to replace the stock bottom end. I do find it odd that for 40k miles the oil pressure was still up and never dropped from the rag stuck on the pick up tube. I hope this all gets worked out for you though. GOOD LUCK!!

So now the rag has supposidly been in the car for almost 5.5 yrs and 57,000 miles. Something doesnt still doesnt sound right hear. The Place that did the oil pump didnt happen to leave the rag in and is trying to blame someone else for it... Im not trying to start something. John

Yea i agree its hard to believe that it was chanked with 20 miles on the car and now all of a sudden the rag causes all this damage. Like John said i dont want to start anything either but i find it hard to belive a rag didnt cause low oil pressue in the past and it just all of a sudden causes all of this damage. I dont know maybe the oil pump did go bad and that the reason for the low oil pressure you spoke of earlier in the post and when they did it they fixed that but left a rag in the pan which finished the moter off. How long after the pump was replaced did this happen? If it was within days i would say that the shop that did the oil pump is the one who left the rag in the pan. I dont know im no detective but it sounds logical to me Thats just my .02 -Joe

A local friend had a some warranty work done on his 2001 SS that had about 1500 miles on it. I dont know what they were working on but they had a vacuum line off for some reason. My friend was in the car and the mechanic told him to bring the rpms up slowly so he did. All of a suuden the car made a very loud pop and shut down. Come to find out the mechanic had a rag in his hand and the vacuum line sucked it out of his hand and it got stuck in the motor and cracked the block. My friend got a new motor out of it.
