my engine estimate/what is neccessary for me
anyway, my engine builder is very meticulus on his engines, and builds them more precisely than anyone ive ever seen. i think he is going over the top tho, and i need to save some money by shaving the list, and have a couple of questions. my goals are ~650rwhp at 12ish psi. i want the engine to be reliable so i never have to go into it again (i know never say never):
1. i've heard many different sides to how good EAGLE rods are. i'm wondering about experiences and how good/reliable they really are. I know they are budget, and you get what you pay for, just looking for some input.
2. will my stock crank be strong enough for me as long as it's polished? which brings me onto ...
3. we were thinking of stroking the engine at the stock bore, but can't find any pistons for that. does anybody make a 4' stroke, stock bore low CR piston? and is an EAGLE crank in this instance okay?
4. what bolts/studs throughout my engine are necessary to replace?
5. obviously im gona be doing a cam kit for the heads. how necessary is it to open up the valves on my 241 heads? i know i can run less boost and get the same cfm if they are opened up, but.....
6. any good cam specs from u FI bois?
7. he wants my CR at 8.5:1, but i think that'll be a little sluggish, and want somethin more like 9:1..... what'a u guys think
sry for the long read, but i really appreciate ur input
/bill
2. will my stock crank be strong enough for me as long as it's polished?
I would go with a good aftermarket crank. I broke my stock Buick crank which was designed for boost, rolled fillet rod and mains at 21PSI around 500RWHP.
ARP bolts through the engine
Stock Crank is fine
if you stay with the stock stroke Diamond makes a -8.6cc boost piston good for 20psi, it would give you approx. 9.3:1 compression with stock heads.
a piston for a 3.905 bore and a 4" stroke good for 9:1 compression will probably need to be a custom setup. off the top of my head I know of no off the shelf piston to meet that goal.
