Default ? About Cometic MLS Gaskets

Do I need to use some kind of sealant or anything between them and the block and/or heads?

Anthony is correct. I highly recommend you retorque after first heat up cool down cycle if using not stock fasteners.

I spray both sides of the gasket with permatex copper spray and torque to 80 lb-ft with arp studs.

Installed mine dry and used ARP bolts and torqued them to spec with no problems. I agree make sure you have a good clean surface before you start. I wanted to use the copper spray but Tony at AFR told me to put them on dry so I did.

I used a small film of copper gasket spray as well. No problems whatsoever here. I've heard of more problems without the copper gasket than with.

My engine builder went dry, but question:

How many of you guys with ARP's had to go back and retorque after the first heat cycle?

Thanks. Firing up the new motor Saturday.

I fired up my Darton wet sleeved 427 yesterday and have a water leak at the bottom of the head at #3 cylinder. Used ARP studs torqued to 65/fps as told by Cartek and used the Cometic gaskets. Darton has said a leak can be common and that alot of people use the copper gasket spray. My leak has stopped so far today but I think I will torque them down alittle more when I readjust the valves. I'll use the spray if i still have the leak later. By the way, can this Cometic gaskets be reused/retorqued?

Cometics can be reused. Follow their instructions if you do so.

There's no reason not to use the copper gasket spray.

Any parts store should have it. It's made by Permatex. I believe it's in a copper colored can and titled "copper spray gasket" or something of the likes. You can't miss it.
