Default Changing Valve Springs Question/Help

I broke a spring on Cylinder 5. I thought I would change all the springs sinse they are due...

I bought a set of 918's.

Which way do they go back on? I'm guessing the narrower diameter end is on top. If so, then my retainers dont fit right. If its the other way, then the springs dont seat right on the head.

Do I need new retainers? I thought the 918's were direct replacements.

The springs I took off were the same diameter on both ends, so there was no issues.

Your current springs are probably a beefier replacement spring. The 918's are an upgrade for the stock 'beehive' style spring. Yes, the narrow end goes up.

You can get stock steel retainers from GM or titanium from Comp or Lunati (if you have $$$) get the titaniums.

Obviously, the previous owner of this vehicle changed the springs to non beehive type. You'll need to get a set of OEM retainers to use the 918s or a clone retainer that will fit the beehive style taper.

Might need some different seats too. See if you can compare the ones you have to stockers to find out.

I have a set of retainers... if you want them let me know. If you buy the spring kit, you get springs, retainers, seats and valve guide seals. All you reuse is the keepers
