Default New Tapping Noise

after starting nd driving for two minutes or so i get a loud tapping at all rpm's. But after the engine gets to operating temp, or driving for 15-20 minutes it stops and the sewing machine noise resumes. Could this be a sticking lifter or valve?

DONT SAY PISTON SLAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ive heard that before and it doesnt sound like what i a m having. Would changing the oil help a sticking lifter? Are there any additives i could put in to help them?

Any ideas on what would be the best lifters to put in my engine with my current setup?

Sorry to sound stupid, but what is a "sticking lifter"? Wouldn't the spring pressure be strong enough to hold the lifter on the cam lobe? Or are you talking about the lifter plunger? Thanks...

"Sticking lifter" is probably a misnomer. They are called hydarulic lifters because they use oil pressure to keep the seat where the pushrod rides against the lifter in a pumped-up position. Inside the lifter are a series of discs with very small orifices and there is also a spring. The spring alone cannot handle the pressure applied to the lifter by the valve springs and so if the orifices become restricted by a piece of contaminant, oil will not flow in and out of the lifter properly and the lifter will not adjust properly and will let the rocker arm clatter. I think that's what they're talking about when they refer to a sticking lifter. If that ain't it, I dunno.
