ASA is great, unless you want POWER. It will make some, but you can make much more power than that. The ASA idle is extremly wicked though.

With a 4k stall I'd consider the previously mentioned 233/239 as the absolute smallest. Can you deal with a few minor nuinces that big cams yield? How about a G5X3 on a 114, or an MS3.

well....lets discuss daily drivability between a 3500 and a 4000 stall.
it will get driven at least 4 days a week...

I daily drive my 4k stall. There really isn't much at all about big stalls that makes them undrivable. The only downsides arise from the extra slipping. It generates additional heat, burns gas and makes more noise (exhaust dependant).
If you either have a somewhat quiet exhaust or don't mind listening to it at 2.5k rpm for easy acceleration and 3-4k for moderate acceleration, aren't horribly concerned with gas usage in town and run a proper tranny cooler while monitering the trans temps full time there is no reason not to get a 4k stall converter on a daily driver.

Now, I have a 98 (slightly smaller gas tank) and have a lot of stop and go driving, but I am just about at the 1/4 mark right now and have only gone 110 miles. It wasn't really any better with the 3500 though.

Should work pretty well. It might just be big enough to keep you satisfied.

One of the more popular camshafts back in the day for us was the 228R: 228/228, .588"/.588", 112 LSA. I picked up 47 RWHP with this camshaft in my '02 SS A4, and I ran a best of 11.41 in the 1/4. However, I did have a 4400 stall speed torque converter. The 228R would still work well with your 3500 stall speed and give you the noticable lope that you're looking for.

Feel free to give me a call or e-mail me at trevor@texas-speed.com if you would like to discuss camshafts further. I'll be glad to give you some insight on a few different cams so you can pick the best one for your needs.

now that the car is about to go in the shop to get it all done im havin second thoughts...

i feel like im gonna run into drivability problems so....
im choosin between these three setups:
-TR224 on a 112
-TR228 on a 112
-or my original plan- Comp 226/228 on a 112

all with supportin mods, 3500 stall, and a tune.

Eh, you'll want to go bigger after driving on your cam. I'm already planning on a TREX setup, the X2 ain't cuttin' it for me anymore.

I have a friend with the Texas Speed 228r that Trevor was talking about in his 2000 SS. His car is one of the best running H/C cars in our area. He has beat cars with larger heads and cams than his on both the street and the track. Great pulling cam! And makes for a great daily driver.

not lookin too good about sellin my car.
they guy is bein a lil shady with me...

talked to my guy today about my cam
and told him i wanted to go about the biggest possible
on a daily driver A4.

he told me to choose between:
-226/228
-228/230 (all the cams are custom Comp XE-R grinds)
-230/232

all on either a 112 or 113.

im leanin toward the 228/230 since it will be about in between
but i have noticed guys runnin like mid 230s on an A4 but i dont know
i just want good performance with a NASTY idle and drivable.

please give me some opinions on what to do...

im lookin for better low end(for the most part)
with a nasty idle( i want it to idle choppy but i want it to tack up real qucik when it revs, real solid sounding like quick throttle response)

i also dont wanna go too big, i wanna stay below a 237 or so...

there is a Red SS on ls1sounds.com with a Patriot 231/237 on a 112 with a hooker catback and it sounds real nice(idles good and revs quickly)
