There is a ton of info out there on this site you can use to check up on. The most important thing is that you figure out your goals first. Do you want a nice tame set-up, or are you looking to scare small children while idling at a stop light?

The most popular grind by far is the Thunder Racing 224/224 cam. 112 lsa for a stick, and 114 lsa for an automatic. www.thunderracing.com They've got a cam swap package going for $600 dollars. After that, you need to install it yourself, or pay somebody in the neighborhood of $300 bucks, and you need a computer tune, anywhere from $300-$600 dollars.

Good luck with your setup. For what it's worth, most experienced moders will tell you to not do a cam as your first mod. Look up JRP's guids in his signature, it is an incredible resource for beginners.

You should call Texas Speed & Performance. Have a talk with them and they could set you up with a cam that will best suite you and all the neccesary parts . 1-806-866-0734

What are you looking for as in HP and what kind of driving are you plan on doing? Are you planning on taking it to the tracks once in awhile? What other mods will be complementing the cam? Post more info. Other than that do like LS1fire said and call TSP, they'll set ya up good.

chrischiz79 have you passed cali emmisions with that cam. I'm looking at a 220/224 551/551 114 crane cam to pass cali, and I've always read that with this size cam only the 114 LSA will pass. I want to get a 112 for the better mid range power and rougher idle, but haven't heard of anyone passing with it. Looks like your cam is pretty similar to the crane

i do not think you'll have a problem with smogging that cam. my cam hasn't been installed yet. i contacted Rick at Synergy Motorsports here in the bay area, and i don't want to quote him but i think i remember him saying that he can get a 224/224 on 112lsa to pass smog...not to sure though. i've also heard that the 112lsa is pushing it as far as cali smog check. i've gone against the advice of getting a 112lsa and the risk of failing smog. so i'll either have to swap it out or get one hell of a tune. i am about to send in my DMV registration payment at the end of the month, so luckily i will have some time to enjoy the cam before i'm required to have the car smogged.

haven't heard of anyone passing with it
so did they have to swap back to the stock cam, or did they get hooked up?....i'm sure if u PM Rick, he will be able to tell you if the cam you are considering will pass.

well my mods so far are slp lid, flowmaster muffler, cutout, and k&n air filter. i just got the car a few months ago so i havent done very much to it. i drive my ws6 alot, and i plan on taking it to the track every once in a while. i just need more power than it has now because stock just isnt good enough for me. as for other mods, i plan on getting a torque converter, headers, ls6 intake, true duals with x pipe, well pretty much anything that will get me more power. thanx to everyone who has posted so far.

You should mod in this order for an auto:

1. TORQUE CONVERTER and Nitto DRs
2. Headers and Duals or Headers and Y
3. Ported TB, LS6 Intake, and Cam (all at the same time, cause you're gonna have the Intake/Engine Stripped down at this point anyway.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have done it this way. Oh, and some suspension mods along the way wouldn't hurt either. Most important ones can be done pretty cheap. I got LCAs, PHR, and Driveshaft Loop from UMI for 240 shipped.

If you mod in groups like I've outlined above, you'll save yourself some time (and/or money) in the labor department.
