Default Any tricks to installing Crane 99893's?

I'd been trying to tune my car for a while with really odd feedback from different changes I made in the tune, and I couldn't figure out for the life of me what was going on. Turns out I'd broke the outer valvespring on my 99893 duals.

The car FELT fine down low, it didn't stumble or fall on its face, there wasn't really any signs of it having problems except for what felt like valve float up high on the 1-2 occassions I took it up there. Obviously since it didn't feel right I didn't push my luck.

Anyway, I think I remember reading somewhere about needing to shim these springs up or something, but I couldn't find any threads about it in the search feature. The only thing I saw mentioned was something about Futral saying they needed a 1.70 to 1.80 installed height. I've got a spare set of these same springs, so I'd prefer to just swap a spring in there if I can verify that we installed them right.

Here's a pic of the carnage for entertainment purposes.
