Default Cam vs. Mileage

How much cam will the LS motors take before gas mileage takes a big hit? I've been wanting to do a mild buildup on the '03 LS-1 motor in my '47 Ford (work in progress), but it will only have room for a 15 gal tank...

if you have an m6 a big cam wont affect hiway mileage that much. my friend lost like 3-4 mpg witha 236/236. with an auto it will suffer more

I've lost about 3mpg with mine, but I'm not done tuning it yet so hopefully I'll get some of it back.

The car should weigh around 3000, will have a 200R4 OD auto with lockup, 3.50 gear and 29" tire. My calc's show ~ 1640 @ 60 mph and 1914 @ 70 mph. I plan on running a PI Vigilante with stall based on cam. I want this to sound and run like a low 12 second car, yet with fairly decent mileage. I have NOT ruled out a turbo eventually, my GN powered S-10 runs 11.80's with a 235" six and pulls 18 mpg if I drive with sanity.

your highway milage won't be that bad.

like 777 said, city will be most changed. i've gotten anywhere from 13mpg to 20 mpg all city driving depending on traffic and how fast i drive around.

28 mpg stock m6 3.42 10 bolt
22 mpg with my 222/228 .581/581 114 m6 3.73 gears 10 bolt
20 mpg after 5.3 truck heads
15 mpg with my 242/245 .638 .638 112 m6 4.10 gears 12 bolt

all of these are averages I drive equal amounts of highway and city

Ive gotten into the single digits before, but my RPM's never fell below 4k either for about 7 mins. On the freeway in my cam car I can see high 20's for the milage. Sometimes ill do my own skip shift around town. I know I could hit 30 if I draft something big like and big SUV or 18 wheeler, just scared of rock chips. I have a 221/221 btw.
