Were the instructions above what you followed? If not what did you do differently?

Basicly.

I tore down a little more than the instructions said to though. I had a buyer for the cam that was in it, so I wanted to get that out and sold. That was 2 weeks before actually pulling the motor, so you can kinda understand why I did that.

The only thing I had problems with was the clutch line on the tranny....it didn't want to come off, and the brake lines.

I used the strut tower brace.
Although, the hoist came REAL close to nailing the front clip, so I think when I slide the motor back in, we will use the radiator support.

Great writeup but personally I have found it a little easier to just pull the pass kick panel and just unplug the entire engine harness. Its seems to be easier to pull the harness off the motor after its out of the car to me.

I was unpluggin it by pulling the wire connectors at the hole in the firewall. This way you don't to tear the interior out, although if you can get to it by just removing the kick panel it may easier that way.

I would recommend using the radiator support. Makes things a lil easier without having to worry about scratching up the nose of the car.. But, I'd rather find a lift that I can borrow!! lol

I could walk out in the back yard too, but that would require a nice sized tree branch and a come-along! Thats Alabama Style!!

Fortunately I have a shop with a lift at my grandfather's place. It's alot easier to it all, oil changes, headers, you name it, with a lift.

Can the a/c compressor(already removed lines) and alt. stay? I've done 10 pulls on lt1's, but this is my first ls1 pull. It appears they can stay, but just wanting to double check.

Yes you can leave the A/C compressor and every other accessory if you are removing it from the bottom.

Just hang it all on the front end, radiator support is what I used, when you get the car jacked up with the a/c loose. That's the easiest way I have found and since freon has doubled in price in the last year or so it's easier on the wallet as well and you don't have to worry about recharging, finding leaks, dying the hell out your a/c system, etc. Take some pics as you go for this thread so I can get back to it, I have been very very busy but I am starting to slow down again so maybe I'll have the time to finish it now, I need to find some pics of each step at least so i can show the areas in which everything is and all. If you would do that skinnies I would appreciate it.

Any tips on lifting the car high enough to take out the motor without having access to a lift, or engine hoist?

hmmm, maybe a tree and a come-along??? That's what I would try next. Go pick up a hoist, you can get one for the 2-3 hundred range I would think. What are you doing? Don't know any mechanics who may let you borrow a hoist or lift for a night? I had a friend and he found a mechanic that would let him use his lift for 50 bucks a night, it took us 2 nights, 1 to get the motor out, and 1 to get it back in. Take pics of how you do it though and let me know if I can be of any help. PM for a phone # if you need it.

Also may want to post in your "regional" forum, someone may be able to help you out, I would if I were closer but I'm sorry I am not driving hours on end to pull one of these beasts!!! sorry, lol.
